The final decision on where you will deliver is up to you, but we have made a list of the things you should consider.
Tips on choosing the best maternity hospital in Nairobi
1. Proximity from your home
The shorter the distance of the hospital from your home, the better. Although this has no overall effect on the outcome of the delivery, you don’t want to be stuck in traffic when your baby is on the way. It is best to choose a hospital that is nearby.
2. Insurance cover
With the introduction of the Linda Mama Initiative, many Kenyan mothers have a maternity cover that greatly helps with maternity costs. Finding a hospital that accepts the maternity cover will help reduce your costs. Many hospitals also accept other maternity covers.
3. High risk pregnancy services
Many mothers who have had a difficult pregnancy will need to be in a hospital that has high risk pregnancy services. This way, they will be able to deal with worst-case scenarios and both you and your baby will be safe. Consider this if you have had a complicated past delivery or you have a pre-existing condition.
4. Comfort
Comfort is important to many mothers. Finding the right hospital for you that will ensure that you are comfortable during your delivery will help make the process better. This may mean different things for different moms, so find a hospital that feels right for you.
